I started playing Millenium a New Hope this morning...well til my PC made a horrible noise and crashed epically because its on its last leg.
Shame too cause I was enjoying it. Its actually quite good and very pretty.
Though I will admit after a while the music was starting to REALLY irritate me.
For some reason I decided to visit the forums on steam about the game, just to see what others thought and...as usual...people suck.
I feel the need to ask..whats with the RPG Maker games hate?
Am I just weird? Cause I love the SHIT outta RPG Maker games.
Corpse Party (like 3 different ones), Ao Oni, Mad Father (man that shit is good), Crooked Man (I swear I peed a little), Killer Bear...they're really enjoyable games to me. and those are just the ones I've played, I have a ton of them I want to play but haven't had a chance to get around to.
I recently bought RPG Maker just so I could play shit people put up on the Steam Workshop...because honestly, I wouldn't even know where to start making a game cause I'm just not that creative.
I had no idea that people hated these games so passionately.
What exactly is the problem with them?

Inquisitor...Fuck that static!
I apologize...this is a repost of something I just wrote on FB. When I started writing it there it was just gonna be a little blurb and instead turned into a full blown rant and..well you guys know this is where I come to rant...
A while back I bought a game on GOG called Inquisitor, I just saw to day that its been greenlit on Steam.
I have to say that while I utterly loathed this game...not because it was hard (which it is) but because it was fucking boring as all get out..I didn't begrudge it the oh I don't remember I think I paid $10 for it. I mean, I've bought shittier games that I will never play, some of them more than once (don't ask me why).
No, the reason I am starting to REALLY regret my purchase is because the developer comes off as a total prick.
You see, I decided to see what people were saying about it on the Greenlight page and right away I saw the dev being kinda snippy.
Then I clicked on one of the "featured discussions" and that's when it got...interesting.
When someone gave reasons why they didn't like it the dev just showed a "good" review of his game.
when someone suggested that the game perhaps needed a bit of balancing the dev turned it around on the person with this remark:
"When dying almost 100 times, couldn't it mean that the player is doing something wrong?"
I think that dying a lot in a game probably does mean you suck...however games have a learning curve and I would think after a while you get further along without dying. If someone is dying 100 times in your game...maybe the game COULD use a little balancing.
I stopped there in the conversation because...well because it was pissing me off and reminded me of my own little run in with an indie dev...
Some of you might remember that if you ever checked out my blog.. Hack Slash Loot.
The game is god awful and so I called it god awful with many creative words. The dev graced my blog with their presence (anonymously of course) to tell me that I was "butthurt" that I sucked at their game.
I then went on a little fishing trip and found quite a few people that shared my opinion (even if they did do it with classier words and longer reviews)
I'm all for Indie devs getting their shot. I'm all for devs in general putting out their creative vision and I understand not all games are for everyone.
What I am NOT for is devs with condescending and insulting attitudes thinking they deserve an ass-kissing or that you just aren't worthy of their magnificence.
So..Fuck you Inquisitor...right along with HSL.

So Steam...yeah..
so I decided to list what I've gotten for the month of December, but then my fingers got tired and i decided to just copy paste that shit.
Thanks to...numerous bundles, a few great friends and LOTS of steam sales...I've gotten a shamefully big haul this month. Worst part? I still have a wishlist of over 100 items...Yeah, let that sink in lol.
I went to steamcalculator.com and checked out my acct. IT doesn't count any Desura games, or GOG games and maybe thats a good thing cause...I already wanna cry...
Add Desura and Gog and I probably could have bought a really nice new car...thats kinda depressing really. But, I love my games and so I will continue to haul ass to the poor house spending all my extra cash on them :p
I blame Steam and their awesome sale for my inability to stop buying games. That and the fact I might need an intervention.
So how much is your acct worth? and how much did you blow on the sales? Come on spill it! I showed you mine :p

Review: R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War
Money's been tight lately, really tight. Life has been difficult and stressful and my health has been utter crap. Given these things when I'm looking at games these days I want cheap, fun, easy. I want to kick ass and take names in a way I can't in my everyday life and I wanna do it with minimal stress, difficulty or money.
WTF does this have to do with anything? I dunno, just felt like sharing.
That being said, last week I was looking at the sales on Steam and saw the Sherlock Holmes collection on sale... 6 games $8.74..WOOT! and also some game I've never heard of named Realms of Ancient War for a little over $11.
Action, RPG, ooh Wizard! controller enabled! (I suck at Kb/m) So I read the description...and it was...well where the hell was it? its like 2 damn sentences. Its got some bullet points, something about explosive action blah blah blah. Oh look something about controlling enemies but...no real details. That didnt help much. I went and looked up reviews...it got panned. Somewhere around a 5 or so. But I tend to like the shit everyone says sucks so, that wasnt telling me anything.
Finally I watched the trailer and it looked like Diablo 3 kinda, and kinda like Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and I enjoyed both of those so I figured, sure, why the hell not.
I picked it up along with the Sherlock Holmes collection and installed it and figured it would probably sit there unplayed with he other 600 games til hell freezes over.
But a few days later a bad day and some curiosity led me to start it. I played about 4 1/2 hours that day and only stopped because my head was pounding. A couple days later I fired it up again and finished it.
Its not a very long game, maybe 10 hours? I don't know, I paused a lot to deal with stuff at home. But even still it manages to feel meaty enough. The game is 25 chapters long with an interesting beginning story and a good satisfying ending, though I couldn't help but feel like while I didn't know the mechanics of HOW it would play out, I had a good inkling of how it would work out, if that makes sense.
You get a choice of 3 standard fantasy characters: Big Burly Barbarian, Evil-Looking Pointy Armoured Wizard with spooky glowy eyes and Half-Naked Elf Rogue Chick. Not being the burly type and not wanting to be a friggin elf for the bajillionth time combined with my love of fireballs led to me being the Wizard.
I really don't know jack about my character beyond he's a wizard, he carries a book and a crystal ball and he claims to be looking for some sort of artifact. That's it. That's all you get to know about your character. They are looking for a random Macguffin.
So I flung fireballs and force pushed skeletons and picked up rainbow named and colored loot. I gathered enough unnecessary mana potions to fill an olympic swimming pool because my spells didnt take much to cast them and that fireball basic spell can take you through the entire game. There were plenty of skills to choose from, its just that none of them really worked as well as my started set levelled up. Fireballs, force push and toxic cloud are all you need, maybe a healing spell if you get a little nervous about your health.
And there's one thing I didn't like at first, though by the midway point it no longer mattered. The game has an odd "lives" system. You start with 3 gems called "soul stones" if you are killed you will respawn at the last checkpoint you came across, til you run out of soul stones. Lose all soul stones and its game over. Reload after a game over and you have to redo the entire chapter, even if you were at the last checkpoint when you died. But as I said, that stopped mattering after a while. You get 3 soul stones at the beginning of each chapter with a cap of 9 stones. I ran out of stones at the very beginning thanks to a douchey spider spitting poison once. After that I always had a full set of soul stones and I rarely ended up needing one.
The locations, enemies, etc. are fairly varied and fairly good looking. I'm not the best person to ask about graphics, they don't matter much to me unless its an absolute eyesore. But this game was pleasant enough to look at. It very much looked like the old PS2 games I loved, both Dark Alliance games, Norrath, Gauntlet.
The story itself is told with voice overs and drawings. The voice-work is good and the drawings quite nice, I especially loved the look of the Elf King. The story is pretty linear and the side quests are minimal.
While the story is linear there is some backtracking and such and sometimes the lack of a minimap can be a pain in the ass, you do have a waypoint arrow but its vague at best. So I had moments of annoyance as i tried to figure out what the hell i missed in order to get door A to open when the waypoint arrow only kept pointing at said door when the person I needed was on the other side of the map.
The game also has a bad habit of suddenly sending out hordes of little jumpy minions that keep spawning out of the ground around you, mobbing you. Something that my poor Wizard couldn't stand up to early on in the game, after all as a wizard he was suitably squishy despite the bitchin' spike armour.
I feel there's something else I'm forgetting...I distract easy..look shiny!
...
...
Oh sorry, there was this like glitter thing on the ground and the sun hit it and...well that's not important right now...
I might have forgotten something and I'll probably think of it after I post this so I'll update it if it comes to me (chances are it will wake me up at 3am).
For now know that its a fun little hack n slash. Not deep, not difficult but enjoyable and very pick up and play. Well worth its non-sale price of $15.
You KNOW me, and my track record with buying, playing, finishing games. For me to buy it, play it and finish it all in the same week, its worth a look at.
Oh oh OH! I remember now!!!
the bulletpoints said that you could take over enemies! Yes! you can! and i forgot because honestly, its a footnote, something you are required to do exactly ONCE and after that it is optional. I did it a few times just for shits and giggles but really, its nothing deeper than a fun trick to do once in a while. Basically sometimes there will be some BIG enemies, trolls, ents, giant spiders and the like. When a yellow circle is visible under them you can press a button and take over their movements causing them to wreak havoc among their little minions. If you play your cards right you'll kill all their little friends and their little friends will damage him so much you ride him to death. When the enemy dies you get booted back to your own body again. Its fun enough but, its sometimes easier just to go in there and fight than it is to wade through the smaller enemies to control the bigger one. The big ones arent that hard to take out anyway.
minor footnote...the game does have co-op, but its only local co-op which kinda sucks cause a friend had bought the game as well in hopes we could play together but so such luck.
So as usual, I'll leave you with a trailer for your enjoyment and I DEMAND! (in the nicest possible way, please) that you give the game a try if hack n slash is your thing.

Review: Hack Slash Loot
Hack Slash and Loot is like the original Legend of Zelda, if it had sucked balls. Permadeath, no inventory, tiny window, horribly pixelated "old skool" wannabe graphics that make everything look like little spiky smears.
Anything you find you must pick it up then and there or not. Including health or food.
I played a bit as an Archer (don't do that, unless you wanna die within 5 seconds) and as a Saracen (that one lasted 5 whole MINUTES)
what can I say about this utterly craptasticly fugly mess?
KILL IT WITH FIRE!
You know what?
Fuck this game...right up the ass..with a 12 foot dildo and no lube.
I'm sure there are plenty who will claim the charming nostalgia of ugly graphics and the utter lack of even a lives system and you know what I say to them? bite me pretentious ass. Because I really cannot comprehend how anyone would think this was worth their money or time.
Here's a trailer...that pretty much all I can say about it.

Ok so i'm cheating here...Quick Impressions
I'm being lazy and doing a copy pasta of a short little first impressions paragraph I wrote on my OMG FB page.
The game is: They Bleed Pixels
So a very kind friend gifted me this game today and I decided to give it a whirl. Holy Shit! Great game but hard. I'm am so shitty at platformers, I died 19 times on the first damn level. But, it looks pretty cool. It reminds me of Super Meat Boy, but I'm a cute little girl instead of a gross chunk of meat...also it has so many damn spikes it brings back traumatizing memories of that one time I tried playing VVVVVV.

BUY ALL THE GAMES!!!
So...yeah...
From time to time someone usually comments on my game collection. On occasion they ask me why I own so many games? Do I ever intend to play them? how many of them do I actually play?
My knee jerk first reaction is to say "why the hell do you care?" but that would be rude.
So instead I calmly explain myself yet again....which is starting to piss me off, because, I don't owe explanations to anyone.
But, again, in an attempt to not be a raging bitch I go through my often repeated speech that goes like this:
I own this many games because I love games. I love to play them, I love to collect them, I love to read about them, I love to have options.
I buy games that I am interested in, games I'm curious about, games I've heard good things about. I don't just randomly pick shit off the shelves while blindfolded.
I don't play as many of them as I would like to for numerous reasons, but for the most part I buy them with the intent to play them (whether I finish them is another story).
I fail to see why it matters to anyone how big my Steam list is (by the way, people need to realize that the number of games they see on my profile is not the number of games I own on steam, that number includes DLC for some odd reason). Is my buying a game on Steam preventing someone else from purchasing that game? Is the person asking me about the amount of games I own paying for my games?
I'm gonna go with "No" as an answer to both of those questions, and if that's the case then....WHY THE HELL DO THEY CARE????????????????
Yes, I buy a lot of games across many platforms. In the past I was also a bit of a shady character and that bolsters the number of games in my possession. My Xbox360 is currently out of space from all the XBL, XBIG and DLC I have purchased. My PS3 is also out of space from downloading some games recently after getting Playstation Plus. Realistically speaking, I will NEVER get through my entire collection. Even though I am not the only person in my house that games (my children do as well) WE will never get through my entire collection. But, how does that affect anyone else?
I pay my bills, I buy my groceries, I buy some games. I don't beg others for games, I'm reformed and so I don't pirate games anymore, I buy indie bundles to support both the small developers and charity and I give away games from said bundles that I have no interest in, or that I already owned from past purchases.
So tell me please, why do I need to justify or defend my collection? I understand a lot of people prefer to rent games or buy games and trade them in for other games, but that's not my thing. However I do not give them a world of shit for it because its not something I myself do.
I own a lot of games....more than many people, less than others. As long as I have money to spare I will continue to buy games. As time and inclination allows I will play some of these games. I will never play them all. But unless I'm taking your games or you're footing the bill....I'm not really interested in your opinion of me or my gaming habits. That may sound rude but, I'm just fed up with the situation.
